Le Reve Events, the creators behind the hit stage production, Music Meets Runway (MMR), has announced preparations for this year’s event scheduled to take place in just a few months at the Eko Hotel Expo Center, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Music Meets Runway has set a high bar with not one but two successful shows; fusing haute couture and buzz-worthy performances from some of the best artistes and upcoming designers in Nigeria. This third season will be called ‘The MMR Icons Edition’, this year the team choose to spotlight, recognize and honor the most amazing and undisputed fashion & music icons that have changed the industry and put Nigeria proudly on the world map.

“It’s our third year anniversary so we wanted to do something very inspiring, prestigious and glamorous!” says Jennifer Olize, the producer of MMR. “We want our guests to enjoy every second of the event and leave with a memorable experience. This season our expectations are high and the bar will be unparalleled. So expect nothing but the very best!”

Last year was nothing short of spectacular with the gorgeous Tanzanian model, Millen Magese and Oliver Twist crooner D’banj as the hosts of the show.

Upcoming designers in the fashion industry like April by Kunbi, Kimono Kollection, Tiannah Styling, Nkili, Andrea Iyamah, David Bowler, Shakara Couture, Eclectic by Sasha, Rebahia and Moofa to name a few gave us timeless runway looks that we still see on red carpets today. Similarly, Wizkid, Naeto C, D’banj, May-D and Iyanya got the audience on their feet as they performed their hit singles on the MMR stage.

The Iconic designer, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi closed the show with D’banj performing alongside. It was truly an amazing fuse of fashion and music.

Selected guests were invited to the Music Meets Runway Pre-Party sponsored by Ciroc Premium Vodka, which took place two days before the main event and was deemed by attendees as the most entertaining party of the year.

Rationale of the Black Panther and the Iron Musical Throne

The Black Panther signifies power, struggle, freedom and empowerment of the black race. MMR 2013 is celebrating music & fashion icons who have been recognized internationally and as such have put us (Nigeria) on the world map. “Panthers” are known for their extra-terrestrial strength and these iconic pioneers are determined men and women who are not only passionate but believe in hard work.

The Iron Throne represents the political relationship between both fields (fashion and music) metaphorically. Fashion has always needed music to get to a certain level of acceptance by the public. And this year, as seen in “The Game Of Thrones“, MMR is filled with suspense, intrigue and lots of power; the fashion gurus will literally ride on music to showcase their inherent creativity.

It really was an event to remember.

On Saturday 17th August 2013, The Waterbrook Church held its anticipated TWB Souk event at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

As promised, the hosts, TWB put up an event that had all guests shopping, eating, dancing and having fun.

The event which was a middle eastern styled market, had a wide array of vendors including Emisara, Orenti Ayagba, Steven and Sarah’s O’eclat, Mobo’s, Grey, Kene Rapu, Sports Vintage, Accessorise Me and a host of others kept shoppers shopping till late.

Designers including Grey, April by Kunbi, Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Mimi Lee London, Taryor Gabriels, Orange Culture, IamISIGO and Ugodern, added doses of stylish entertainment with a cobble stone runway show that ran right in the middle of the market.

The evening also ended with a musical showcase from Eben, Omolara, Mcfoy, Clay, Jyrthym, and rap star M.I.

The event was aimed at celebrating the Nigerian creative industry by bringing together budding creative entrepreneurs on a viable platform to showcase their products and services and did just that .

Tres Bien Events, is an event management firm that has designed this year’s edition of its showcasing platform; ‘The Event Show‘ around the vast opportunities in the event industry.

Music Meets Runway, the highly anticipated annual fashion and music show has officially kicked off.

Tagged the MMR 2013: The Icons Edition , the event will celebrate and honour the designers and artistes, who have been exceptional over the years.

MMR is in search of the best models to strut the runway at this special edition. If you know you have what it takes to walk with the legends, then this is your chance.

Last year, Nkem Okorafor, won the Music Meets Runway Model Competition and was named, Face of Music Meets Runway. She currently stands as ‘The Golden Girl’ in the recent campaign image and she will be heading to an international fashion week soon.

Happy Monday! Our BN Spectacular Weddings series is coming to a close soon, but not before we take you to one or two more splendid weddings! It’s been such an exciting way to celebrate our 7th anniversary. You’ve rode with us on a spectacular journey around Nigeria – from the North, South-East, and today we are in the South West – Yoruba land, for the beautiful and amazing wedding of Bisoye and Lanre. Lanre is the super talented photographer behind the lens at Libran Eye {Click}.

How They Met … they set their wedding date on their 1st date!
We were introduced by Bisoye’s cousins (Bime & Cynthia), Cynthia was dating Lanre’s friend (Francis) at the time, they’ve been married for 5yrs+ now. So 3 of them basically introduced us. Bisoye was sleeping over at her cousin’s house and Lanre and Francis were hanging out. We had both just gotten out of relationships and these THREE people thought it best that we meet. We met up at News Cafe and spoke for hours after our introduction and on that day I told Bisoye I would marry her … we even fixed wedding dates 🙂

The Proposal
It was the evening after my mum’s 10th year remembrance. We had argued a lot all through the day and she had even abused me for the first time ever, calling me names. So it was not the ideal day for a proposal really. Even though we fought, Bisoye still decided to stick around while I was doing some work in my home office… As I walked up the stairs going to bed myself, I made up my mind to propose with the ring I had bought 3 months earlier.

So as she lay in bed sleeping and looking ever so beautiful, I held her close and searched for her finger and gently slipped on the ring. She came out of her deep sleep as she felt the ring on her finger and just started screaming YES YES YES while crying. I asked that we pray and so we prayed together, and of course, we were no longer arguing 🙂

For their traditional engagement, Bisoye and Lanre looked resplendent in red. Bisoye in a stunning sequin gele and the groom in a patterned aso-oke agbada and fila.

Two days later, the couple was married at a beautiful Catholic mass. The bride wore a plunging v-neck a-line silk chiffon and lace gown with chantilly, embroidered with silver and white beads. The groom looked dapper in his despoke royal blue Mark Marengo Savile Row three piece suit.

There were so many touching moments at the wedding! For the groom it was seeing his beautiful bride in her gorgeous wedding dress as she walked towards him. At that moment, he says,

“I couldn’t hear a thing and I couldn’t see anyone else but her, I was about to be married to the most beautiful woman I know, I was about to be married to my best friend, I was about to be married to the girl of my dreams.”

For Bisoye, the father and daughter dance, although very funny as it wasn’t planned or rehearsed, it was a very emotional moment for the bride. {editor: it was so adorable!}

Since the couple planned their wedding, they have some advice to share!

“You will come up against a lot of opposition from family as everyone has an ‘idea’. Stick with what is important to you and ensure that when the day is done you’ve TOTALLY enjoyed your day and you won’t have wished for any other type of event. It’s also very important to keep all important parties in the know so nothing that happens is a surprise to them. Just make sure you have a day you ENJOY. We are quite certain all guests enjoyed themselves as much as we did :)”

Hosted by on-air-personality Olisa Adibua, with Tee-A as the MC, it was a night to remember.

Music stars including Billy Ocean, Praiz, Awilo Longomba, Ruby, Tevin Campbell and Maxi Priest were present to rock the stage and deliver some of their loved tracks.

Praiz

R&B singer Praiz performed some of his soothing tracks including a rendition of Rihanna‘s Stay.

Praiz looked suave in a grey blazer and matching pants. He styled the suit which features black lapels, with a black shirt, black shoes and dark shades.

Emma Nyra

Emma Nyra wasn’t one to miss at the Corporate Elite event on Sunday night.

The singer who is rumoured to have left Made Men Music Group, showed off her toned legs in a white lace sleeveless dress.

Sporting long ombre locks, Emma accessorized with a green coral necklace, a silver bracelet, a black studded knuckle box clutch and a pair of gold ankle strap heels.

Vina

Most BellaNaija Style watchers weren’t fans of Vina‘s look at Ice Prince’s Fire of Zamani Album Launch in November. But she definitely stepped up her style game when attending this event.

The Big Brother Africa Amplified housemate turned media personality selected a red dress which features a lace bodice and long satin skirt.

She kept her styling simple; opting for silver hoop earrings and a silver cocktail ring. Her Anita Baker-inspired hairstyle and red lipstick completed the look.

Ohimai Atafo proved to be the dapper of them all at the Corporate Elite event in Mai Atafo Inspired. He wore a blue velvet blazer with tuxedo black lapels, a white shirt, a black velvet bow tie and black shoes.

Waje

Nigerian songstress Waje looked simple and beautiful in a casual-chic outfit.

She rocked a white blazer, a black camisole and black tights. She accessorized with a gold brooch, a gold belt, a gold cocktail ring, a silver clutch and gold heels.

She completed her look with short brown locks, smouldering eyes and red lipstick.

Ras Kimono

Veteran reggae musician Ras Kimono proved he could roll with the cool gang at the event.

He wore a white Ras Kimono T-shirt, flag print black shirt and matching pants, white sneakers and dark shades.

Up-and-coming musician Gina walked the black carpet in a black-and-white checkered turtle neck long sleeve blouse and a black skirt with two thigh-high slits.

Hip TV presenter Dayo Ephraim stood out from the ubiquitous sartorial gents at the event. Dayo flaunted his style with a brown traditional cap, a black shirt with a gold brooch, red pants and brown shoes.

Beverly Naya

It was an all black and gold affair for Beverly Naya at the black tie event.

The Nollywood starlet styled her black jumpsuit with a gold necklace, a black belt to accentuate her curves, a gold clutch and gold sandals.

Beverly was camera ready with nude lipstick and her braids styled into an up do.

Liz Yemoja

Media personality Liz Yemoja was all about the “Lady in Red” look on Sunday evening.

She swayed down the black carpet in a red dress which features a plunging V neckline, a sequined belt and roushed sleeves.

With her dark locks let down, Liz styled the floor length number with silver earrings and a black camisole.

Michael Bonny Bassey

Big Brother Africa: The Chase housemate Michael Bonny Bassey can’t get enough of Nigeria. Ever since the hit reality show wrapped up, the Sierra Leonean actor/model has been spotted at numerous events in Lagos and Abuja.

On Sunday night, he attended the Corporate Elite event. He looked edgy and cool in a grey blazer, white shirt, black pants and black sneakers.

Congolese music superstar Awilo Longomba was one of the headlining acts on Sunday night. He took to the black carpet in a red blazer, black pants, red shoes and dark shades.

Wizkid‘s girlfriend Tania Omotayo posed with the star in a red long sleeve dress with a sexy slit. She completed her look with silver pumps.

Zizi Cardow

Nigerian designer Zizi Cardow sizzled in her Zizi Cardow custom creation at the Corporate Elite Season 7 event.

She wore a strapless cloque corset, a sequined A-line skirt, and a black headpiece. She styled the look with black chandelier earrings, a selection of black bracelets and a black clutch.

Layole Oyatogun

STV’s Page 3 presenter Layole Oyatogun rocked a blue-and-black sleeveless dress, silver earrings, a gold necklace, an embellished black clutch and black heels.

CEO Dancers – Ezinne Asinugo & Soliat Bada

The CEO Dancers know how to bring sexy to an event.

Although the dance group’s third member wasn’t present, Ezinne and Soliat were a sight to behold.

Ezinne Asinugo rocked a black sheer blouse and a pleated leather skirt. She accessorized with gold stud earrings, a gold necklace, bracelet and ring as well as black heels.

Soliat Bada was equally edgy in a black backless top which showed-off some side boob, a gold belt, black leather fringe skirt and monochrome shoes.

Toke Makinwa

Toke Makinwa sparkled at the 2013 Corporate Elite event on Sunday evening.

The Nigerian media personality selected a sequined silver dress with a red sash by April by Kunbi. Toke who opted for brown wavy locks, styled the dress with silver drop earrings and a black-and-silver clutch.

She completed the look with silver eye shadow, and red lipstick.

This event is one for fashion forward personalities who have a flair for innovative fashion and style. Hosted by popular OAP, IK Osakioduwa, the Fayrouz “Party For The Originals” will go down tomorrow in Lagos and will also feature special performances by Davido, Burna Boy among other acts.

Uti Nwachukwu and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu have also been revealed as the Celebrity scouts who will select fashionable guests to take part in the Mr & Mrs Original parade. The winner gets to work with top fashion designers in the Nigerian Fashion industry.

‘Party for the Originals’ is to launch the platform where university students can compete as an expressive group to create exceptional style exhibiting originality through various arts like fashion, bead making among other arts. Don’t be told, be there.

Music Meets Runway 2013 took place on Saturday 21st December 2013 at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. It was hosted by American reality TV star/fashion designer Angela Simmons and Nigerian media personality IK Osakioduwa.

And of course, the annual music and fashion show brought some of the biggest names in the entertainment and fashion world; all strutting on the red carpet in their stylish pieces.

Seyi Shay was a sexy vision in white on Saturday night. The Nigerian singer took to the red carpet in a high neck white dress which features flared slits, a feathered skirt, and an open back to show-off her tattoo.

She styled the piece by Reni Smith with gold earrings, and a silver bracelet. The look was completed with brown lipstick and short wavy brown locks.

The co-host of the night Angela Simmons looked splendid in black.

If her desire was to clearly have the spotlight to herself all night, she nailed it with this Bridget Awosika dress.

The Avant-garde piece with an asymmetric cut and sheer detail, was accessorized with diamond stud earrings, a selection of gold and silver bracelets and cocktail rings, and a pair of black stilettos.

With her braids styled into an up do, she arrived at the event with red lipstick and smouldering eyes.

The Ebony Life TV‘s “The Spot” co-presenter looked oh-so-suave for the single ladies. He completed his dapper get-up with an orange shirt and black shoes.

It won’t be a surprise if he had a date going back home, if he didn’t come with one.

The multi-coloured sequined dress was accessorized with gold drop earrings and a gold bracelet. Unfortunately there isn’t a full length photo but a pair of gold metallic ankle strap shoes will seal the deal.

And who can blame her? Tiwa and Bridget are a pair made in fashion heaven.

The beautiful singer was stunning in a white dress from the label’s Spring 2014 collection. The high neck dress which features sheer detailing on the bodice and hem, was styled with a silver chain-linked necklace and silver strap heels.

Sweeping her long locks to the side, the look was completed with highlighted eyebrows, neutral lipstick and Tiwa’s picture-perfect smile.

Opting for long locks which made cascading waves down her shoulders, she completed the look with smokey eyes and pink lipstick.

Angela Simmons went for a safe colour (black) on Saturday night, but this isn’t your everyday LBD.

The Bridget Awosika number was a fashion delight with its asymmetric cut, sheer detailing and silk material that swirled around as Angela strut the red carpet and runway.

She later changed into a monochrome floor length dress by Kiki Kamanu. She accessorized with silver earrings and black pumps.

IK Osakioduwa
Proving to be one of the best dressed men in 2013, the Nigerian media personality showed-off his sartorial edge like never before.

His first look was a red-and-silver brocade blazer with black tuxedo lapels. He styled it with a white shirt, a black velvet bow tie, black pants and black shoes.

A lot of male celebrities shy away from colour at events; they seem to always to stick to black, navy and brown. But IK made a bold suave move with this multi-coloured blazer and waist coat.

Iconic Nigerian designer Deola Sagoe sent models down the runway in some of her most elaborate and creative pieces yet. It was filled with red carpet dresses, party frocks as well as something for the owambes.

After displaying the amazing body of work, she took her final wave and bow in a sleeveless velvet short pantsuit. She accessorized with gold drop earrings, a gold bracelet and black pumps.

Ohimai Atafo

After giving the audience an eye full of fashionable pieces to linger in their minds for a long time, Ohimai Atafo of Mai Atafo Inspired was seen on the runway taking his bow in a black blazer, white shirt, black tie, jeans and black shoes.

Lanre DaSilva Ajayi

Lanre DaSilva Ajayi showcased her Spring 2014 collection yet again at the 2013 MMR. Although we had seen the collection multiple times (duh, it is part of the BN Style team’s job *winks*), we still couldn’t take our eyes off the pieces.

She got on stage in a sequined dress from the collection.

Ituen Bassey

Boy have we missed new collections from Ituen Bassey.

The creative director of Ituen Basi gave guests an eyefull on Saturday night. And when it was time to take her bow, she looked simple and chic in white print dress.

Pop Stars

Tiwa Savage

It’s Tiwa Savage.

After arriving on the red carpet in white, she chose a shimmering silver fringe dress to perform. Tiwa looked like the perfect show girl in the mini frock, which she accessorized with silver sparkly heels.

D’banj

Bangalee in the building. The Koko Master who is set to begin production on Season 2 of his reality TV show – Koko Mansion, was dapper in a navy single button suit with black velvet lapels.

Rocking hologram aviator shades, he completed his look with a sequined black shirt, black pants and black velvet shoes.

Toni Tones

Toni Tones is one to watch out for in the music scene.

The celebrity photographer turned pop star hit the stage in a sexy outfit. She chose a black corset number with side fringe, a gold necklace, a white blazer and black pumps.

But it is Toni’s hair that is adding the extra va va voom. She is giving all the Diana Ross ladies out there, a run for their monies.

Wizkid

Wizkid skipped the red carpet but made a stylish impression on stage.

He wore a navy tuxedo, a white shirt, red bow tie and black shoes. And oh, yeah his diamond stud earrings.

Lola Rae

Lola Rae brought sexy back. She wore a sequined bra and fringe pants with a white blazer.

Here we were thinking Toni Tones had the biggest hair, Lola Rae wins hands down.

Praiz

R&B crooner Praiz looked dapper in a white blazer, white shirt, black pants and shoes. With his stripped bow tie undone, he completed the look with dark shades.

2Face Idibia

2Baba! The music superstar was hip and cool on stage on Saturday night.

2Face who is expecting another bundle of joy with Annie Idibia anytime soon, wore a blue jacket, a graphic T shirt, red leather pants, a black snapback and black shoes.

The Military Wedding

Ohimai Atafo had a military inspired wedding moment on the runway. After showcasing his bridal pieces, Uti Nwachukwu walked down in an army inspired regalia.

He was the groom.

Osas Ighodaro

And here comes the bride…all dressed in MAI.

Nollywood starlet Osas Ighodaro was a masked beauty in an off shoulder white dress with intricately placed appliques and a ball skirt.

And they lived happily ever after….

Nollywood starlet Osas Ighodaro who was one of the presenters at the music awards ceremony, took a stunning approach to the black carpet.

Funmi Iyanda made a youthful return to the red carpet on Thursday night.

The TV presenter chose to show-off her fit bod in a sequined and graphic multi-coloured jumpsuit by Iconic Invanity.

We have’nt seen a lot of the Nigerian design label’s Spring 2014 collection on the red carpet, so it was a delight for the BN Style team when Funmi selected a piece.

Unlike the runway model who wore the piece with a silver satin blouse, Funmi Iyanda selected a halter neck crop top from the same collection.

She styled the outfit with drop earrings, a silver cocktail ring, a yellow clutch and silver sandals.

Not only did Banky W pick up an award for “Good Good Loving”, he definitely topped a lot of people’s Best Dressed List including ours yesterday night.

Happy to flaunt her toned bod under the see-through piece, the TV presenter styled it with gold drop earrings, a gold ring and blue heels.

Waje had the highest number of nominations for a female at The Headies 2013, so it only seems right that she gave us more than one look.

Look 1: On Thursday, the singer who debuted her new haircut posed for the cameras on the red carpet in a sequined one-shoulder Grecian-inspired red dress with a thigh high slit.

She accessorized with silver drop earrings, a silver ring, a red clutch and red heels.

Look 2: To perform her song “I Wish”, the mother of 1 looked oh-so-pretty in a black long sleeve baby doll mini dress.

The Fayrouz L’Original fashion and style event, tagged “Party for the Originals” had some of the biggest names in the fashion, music and movie industries come together to celebrate Nigeria’s sense of originality in fashion.

The event, which held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday 18th December 2013, was hosted by IK Osakioduwa and featured exciting activities including a runway exhibition of designer outfits by top designers, Mai Atafo, April By Kunbi and KinaButi who were celebrity judges for the competition, Mr. & Ms. Original.

Starting out with a lush cocktail session where guests had to spend unique Fayrouz currency from the Central Bank of Original, celebrity scouts, Uti Nwachukwu, Tee A, Osas Ighodaro and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu mingled with guests while selecting uniquely styled guests who would take part in the Mr. & Ms. Original competition.

“The idea behind Fayrouz “Party For the Originals” is to introduce the L’Original platform which celebrates young and upcoming designers who want their work to be recognized in the fashion industry. This platform is to help university students compete as an expressive group in creating exceptional style which exhibits originality through fashion.” Senior brand manager, Fayrouz and Climax, Nnenna Ifebigh-Hemeson said during the show.

Port Harcourt’s finest, Burna Boy who is known for his original style in music opened the show to the delight of guests in attendance. He later came on stage to perform hit songs like Like to Party, Run my Race, Tonight, Yawa Dey, Remember Me among other tracks.

At the end of the competition, Efosa Ogbeide and Rume Okoh beat six other contenders to win the Mr & Mrs Original titles due to their bespoke outfits and they will work with some of the biggest fashion designers in the Nigerian fashion industry like Mai Atafo, KinaButi in building their own unique designs.

“Ms Original, Efosa’s style showcases originality. If I wasn’t wearing mine I’d totally want to wear hers. Originality is about standing out that’s why I picked her.” Esosa said during the competition.

In the spirit of giving, top designers, Mai Atafo, April By Kunbi and Kinabuti later gave away their unique pieces that were exhibited on the runway during the L’Original auction where guests had to bid with Fayrouz currency.

Davido who was the last act for the night drove guests wild with excitement as he came on stage with B-Red to perform hit songs like Skelewu, Gobe, One of a Kind among other hits.

One of the many is The Headies 2013 which took place on Boxing Day – Thursday 26th December 2013 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

As always, the annual music awards ceremony delivered a lot of must see and hear moments. This year, it was hosted by music superstars Tiwa Savage and Dr Sid.

Nigerian media personality Toke Makinwa and her fitness expert beau Maje Ayida are MARRIED.

BellaNaija.com exclusively got the scoop that the on again, off again pair tied the knot on Wednesday 15th January 2014, but out of respect of their privacy, we decided not to report. The news was unveiled on Laila’s Blog.

After their much publicized split, insiders revealed to BN that Maje felt miserable about the break-up. And to get his one and true love with him forever, he ensured that he popped the big question and tied the knot as soon as possible.

The private ceremony was held in Lagos with family and a few close friends in attendance.

Toke sizzled in a custom white dress by Nigerian design label April by Kunbi. The designer took inspiration from a Berta Bridal dress with a gold belt.

Here are some signs via Twitter that she already tied the knot. These were sent out after the ceremony.

“On the 15th of January 2014, I got married to my lover and Best Friend. It was such an intimate event, I haven’t stopped apologising to family and friends who feel slighted that they could not attend.  I really did not wish to keep it a secret, if anything we would have loved to have all our loved ones there with us but this was our registry and  so much had happened between Maje and I in the last 3 months. Plus, it was such a huge surprise, I had no clue. I hate surprises but I must say, this one knocked me out of my elements because I usually suspect something is happening. Hehehehe! I am not fully over it yet.

Relationships are tough, people go through the ups and downs and we as a couple have had our share of that. Having a private moment was not to offend anyone, it was God’s appointed time and No, I am not pregnant. Lol. Having a baby is a precious gift from God and when that time is right, I am sure he will bless us with ours. Without boring you all, cos you mean so much to me, I have decided to share some of the pictures from the happiest day of my life.”

The Bride!
The beautiful belle was breathtaking in a lace and satin custom creation made by her close pal – designer Kunbi Oyelese of APRIL By Kunbi. The dress was inspired by a Berta Bridal creation from the Winter 2014 collection. Toke’s makeup was done by Joyce Jacob Beauty – she chose a soft glowy look  for the bride, complete with pretty pink lips.

The Ceremony
Only Toke’s nearest and dearest were privy to groom Maje’s plan to propose and wed on the same day. Toke’s sister and close friends including Arese Ogiemwonyi and Louise Priddy were present to celebrate her joy.

Toke has revealed exclusively to BN Weddings that her and Maje will perform their traditional marriage rites later this year, and also have another beautiful white wedding – this one filled with family and friends. As Toke shared in an interview with Liz Yemoja, the couple already had their introduction early last year.

After catching each other’s eyes at the check in counters, to Lolu dropping a line in the waiting lounge, they ended up sitting next to each other on the plane. When she walked down the aisle of the plane it was only a marker of what was to come in a few years when she would be his bride.

How I Met My Wife

It was a beautiful day I would never forget as I met the love of my life and my wife Ify. I was on my way to the rig (I’m an engineer) and was at the airport. After checking in when I saw this lovely looking lady. I was speechless and beyond words at how beautiful she looked. I watched her basically all through, checking in and walking all the way upstairs to the waiting area. I watched as different men walked up to her trying to talk to her and grab her attention while she ignored in the most unfriendly manner. I summoned up the courage and walked up to her and just told her how beautiful I thought she was, to my greatest surprise, she gave me a beautiful smile and said ‘Thanks’. My flight was announced and while checking in, I was extremely upset I wasn’t able to exchange contacts with her. While on the plane, I was shocked when I saw her walking down the aisle, I was super excited but not as much when I saw her walk up to my side and asked me to move as her seat was right next to mine. We chatted and talked all the way and the rest like they say is history as we are here today as husband and wife.

How I Met My Husband

I was on my way to Benin and had just checked in waiting for my flight to be announced for boarding. Yes, I know I am a pretty one so it wasn’t a surprise when this young handsome fly looking buddy named Lolu walked up to me to say hello. It was very funny because all he said was ‘Hi, I just wanted to tell you how gorgeous you are’ and walked away. I was stunned, didn’t know if to call it boldness or lack of courage. My flight got announced and I saw him heading towards the boarding gate. Fortunately, we were on the same flight. As God would have it, I was walking up to my seat on the plane and saw him seated on the one right next to mine (and you tell me this wasn’t ordained by God?), it turned out we weren’t only on the same flight but we were also seated right next to each other. We got talking as we were obviously in each other’s face, he turned out to be a very intelligent man and we exchanged contacts. He called me 3months later (he has serious nerves) and we got talking. From one dinner date to another and here we are today…

How I Asked Her To Be My Wife

Ify is a very special person with a kind and beautiful heart. The decision to spend the rest of my life with her was made easy by the attributes (kindness, caring, thoughtful, respectful and well behaved) she always exhibits.
Proposing to her was a hard task to plan because surprising her before now had proved a hard/difficult task. I thought about proposing while having dinner, on a trip, at the movies or during her birthday. In the end, I opted for the easiest /old fashioned way. I invited her over to my house and while watching a Champions League match between AC Milan (my favorite team) vs Barcelona and she watching a movie, I knelt down in front of her, looked deep into her eyes, told her how much I loved her and uttered the words ‘Would you marry me?’ She looked stunned and surprised as she least expected it at that moment. Immediately she started crying. As for her answer? Well, we’re here today.

The Proposal

We’ve been together for some years and yes, I knew he was going to propose but never knew when. He loves to take his time in everything and to me, this was taking forever. 🙂 I had a strong feeling he was going to propose on a day he was acting really funny and had a box in his pocket. I was already all smiley and happy until he brought out the box and it was a key holder given to him at the office. I was beyond furious and couldn’t understand why a key holder had to be in a box (the frustration). I’m certain he couldn’t understand why I was mean to him that day. I had totally fine tuned my mind away from him proposing and on a faithful evening, while sitting watching a very inspirational movie, I saw him walking up to me in a very weird manner, my attention was partially on him cause the movie got the better half. He stood in front of me and suddenly went down on his knees. It was a surprise because I expected the proposal to be in a room filled with people and it wasn’t. He wanted it to be just the both of us there, it was so romantic thus my emotions running wild. Out of nowhere, the words started coming out and I had no idea when the tears started flowing. I expected the proposal but the simplicity and genuineness of it was just so beautiful. He said so many adorable and mind blowing things and then ‘You would make me the happiest man alive if you agree to spending the rest of your life with me…’ and then came the most beautiful ring ever. Please tell me what a sister was supposed to do, lol. I kept crying and didn’t say yes until long after I had jumped around calling my mum and sisters (I’m typical like that)…

• Always involve the groom in the wedding planning
• Do not hesitate to do or have whatever you always wanted. It’s ‘your’ wedding day and it kinda doesn’t come twice.
• The day goes by so fast so enjoy every second of it.

Ify & Omololu’s wedding was truly a day of joy and celebration that the bride planned to perfection. Her company at the time also made the invitations and wedding magazines that shared their love story and pre-wedding photos by Libran Eye Photography.

On the day, the groom surprised his blushing bride with gifts the morning of the wedding – fragrant flowers and a charming necklace that she wore throughout the day {see the video for more!}. The bride was every bit a princess in her ball gown by Ade Bakare Couture while her bridesmaids wore peach and gold April by Kunbi dresses, to match the wedding colours. The personal touches like the heart pendant on her necklace made her look precious on her special day.

The groom Lolu was laughing all the way to the alter as he was going to meet the love of his life. The bride’s highlight of the day was hearing the groom speak the words – “my wife and I”. At the ceremony Olamide performed, leaving everyone jumping and excited not only for the day, but for the beautiful start to Ify and Lolu’s life together as one.
